Selective Focus

If you are learning – like me – and all the details of aperture and shutter speed are lost on you in the moment when you need to make a quick decision… yet you know the picture you want is one where your subject is in focus and the background is a bit blurred, use "Portrait Mode".  This is usually the mode that has the narrowest depth of field.

The hard part about doing your homework after putting the kids to bed is there is no available natural light to practice right away!  I’ll attempt to post my best comparison tomorrow.
